Shamian Island

We had a free day today, so we slept a little late.  Since Caleb slept through dinner again last night, he was up early again, but not as early as has been.  He has already fallen asleep for tonight and missed dinner again.  He eats a huge breakfast since he wakes up hungry!

We had Starbuck's and the breakfast buffet and then took a taxi to Shamian Island where we had the medical exams yesterday.  The taxi dropped us off in front of the White Swan hotel which has a long history with adoptive parents staying there.  They are currently renovating the guest rooms, but the lobby, restaurants, and shops are still open.

We attended a Mandarin/English service at the Christ Church.  It was packed.  We enjoyed worshipping with others and felt really strange to be hearing the gospel in China.  It was a blessing.

We spent the rest of the day walking around the island.  They boys were a big hit with the locals again, and they had their pictures taken several times.  The island reminds me a lot of Riverstreet in Savannah.  The road are cobble stone and there are statues and shops all along the way.  Lots of brides come here to have their pictures made.  There were many out today, and we passed some sort of photography shop that looks like they organize the bridal portraits.  We did lots of souvenir shopping, and we ate lunch at Lucy's.

We had a great day, and then we took a taxi back to the hotel and got Pizza Hut.  Even Joshua liked that.
